This paper examines the use of mathematics in software for crowd dynamics, a field that has been studied extensively for over two decades in order to improve safety in urban environments and optimize public transportation. Simulations play a central role in many studies, and the models used in these simulations heavily rely on mathematical techniques. In this paper, we provide examples of mathematical formulations that have been successfully incorporated into sustainable commercial software, as well as those that have not. We also discuss the reasons for these outcomes.
